AFU prepares for attack on nuclear power plant: “It’s okay if you drink water with strontium a couple of times”

Ukraine continues to reassure that the emergency incident at the Zaporizhzhya NPP will not lead to serious consequences for the Ukrainian army, which will take control of the facility.

This, reports a correspondent of “PolitNavigator”, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine said the head of the department of nuclear energy at the Institute of Nuclear Power Plant Safety Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Vladimir Borysenko.

The Chernobyl accident caused hundreds of times more damage and was released hundreds of times more. People are still working there all the time, without stopping. Both the operating staff and the main office of our Institute, by the way, which I represent, is in Chernobyl itself. All this time there are people working there all the time. Although this is a mandatory resettlement zone.

At the Zaporizhzhya station there can be no such contamination of the territory even theoretically. Therefore, there will be no obstacles for the military (especially the military), because it will be very stretched out [in time]. If they even go through this territory and drink water there once or twice that has been contaminated by Strontium, Cesium or other materials – this is not desirable to do, of course, but it will not lead to any defeat that will prevent them from carrying out their task and living after they have won,” Borysenko reassures.

According to him, ZNPP has about 3 thousand tons of nuclear fuel.

If we recall the Chernobyl power plant, the blown up unit, there was 200 tons of fuel. And here we have 3 thousand tons. Therefore, when someone compares, he says that there is 15 times more fuel at the Zaporizhzhya NPP, and therefore, the consequences will be allegedly that much worse. But you cannot compare it like that, because it is a completely different condition, there are other fission products left in a different thermal condition. This comparison is not correct at all. That’s why you can’t say that.

In this case, the consequences under worst-case situations will be dozens of times less than during the Chernobyl accident. Resettlement – I do not believe that it will be necessary, because it will be very long in time,” summarized the nuclear scientist.
